We love nature but we also love a hot shower and a comfortable TV at night. Not to mention high-speed internet, free -)
Our solution is to book 3 nights at a hotel (Holiday Inn or Best Western) and then explore the Great Lakes beaches or Muskoka, during one-day trips.
Here are some examples:
Canada Day 2009 – headquarters at the Holiday Inn Kitchener
DAY ONE: We took one trip to the magnifique Sandy Hill park on the Northern shore of Lake Erie. Hotel to the beach was a 70 minute drive.
DAY TWO:we drove Highway 7 all the way to its end, through Stratford, and ending up on the shore of Lake Huron at the public beach in beautiful Goderich.
We also enjoyed a stroll and an icecream on the round city plaza, and a stop on our way back for dinner in Stratford.
August long weekend 2009 – headquarters at the Holiday Inn in Fort Erie, Ontario
DAY ONE: Port Dalhousie, on the Southern shore of Lake Ontario.
DAY TWO: driving from Fort Erie to Crystal Beach on Lake Erie
Canada Day long weekend 2010 – headquarters at the Best Western in Midland Ontario
DAY ONE: Allenwood Beach at Georgian Bay (a 45 minute, beautiful drive from the hotel). Lunch on the main strip in Wasaga Beach (10-minute drive from Allenwood Beach)
DAY TWO: Balm Beach at Georgian Bay, a 10-minute drive from the hotel. Lunch at the beach restaurant.
