Representing BAIA MARE

Baia Mare is my hometown, back in Northern Transylvania. It is Romania’s current rugby champion and 5 from the club represent the national team at the Rugby World Cup.

That’s why, when hometown buddies Raz (left, currently in St.Catherines) and Cris (Montreal) came to visit, we went to watch a rugby game at the Scallywags and proudly displayed a scarf from our hometown rugby team.

People stopped, watched, asked about the scarf and team, and had great words to say about Romanian rugby. Some even remembered the rumors in the 1980s about Romania joining (what then was) the Five Nations tournament. (click link and check the “expansion” section).
