The Romanian Grammys are born

The Romanian music industry is alive and well, as you may remember:

  • by the world-storming  hit Dragostea din Tei
  • by the irresistible  hit machines Inna (I am the club rocker) and Alexandra Stan (Mr. Saxobeat)
  • by pop stars such as Paula Seling (opened for Beyonce; third at Eurovision 2010)
  • or rock bands such as Kumm  @kummmusic

So the question is why doesn’t it have a Grammy-like awards show.

Cue in Zoltan “Zoli” Toth, the former member of Eurovision-fame, all percussion band Sistem, also an accomplished music industry business man via his company Star Management (co-owned with Anca Lupes).

On March 4th 2013, Zoli announced – during the hit morning show at national coverage station Europa FM – that Star Management presents the FIRST EDITION of the ON AIR MUSIC AWARDS (website in construction at publishing time) on April 15th 2013, at the National Theatre in Bucharest, Romania’s capital city.

21 awards will be handed to artists, managers, promoters and other music industry personalities whose activity was monitored for the period of Feb 1st 2012 to Feb 1st 2013. The jury will include 30 music industry pundits.

Says Zoli:

“[The awards] will be a Romanian version of the Grammys, that’s where our inspiration comes from. I believe we need a reference point, both for those listening to music, and for those that want to bring change in the Romanian music industry.”
