2013 best music videos at Canadian Immigrant Song

The perks of running an amateur, non-profit blog/podcast is one can steer away from the beaten path when it comes to best-of-lastyear lists.

Let the likes of Rolling Stone and Billboard deal with their policy and marketing contracts when building those lists.

On my independent little corner, it’s NON COMMERCIAL.

Biased, yeah, for sure!

Without further ado, I think I’d like you to watch these 2013 music (and music-related) videos as well.

BEST grandiose LO-FI VIDEO OF 2013

I am a sucker for any new band soaked in early Black Sabbath. In this case, Canadian fellows Shooting Guns – an instrumental congregation of wizards hailing from the subarctic wasteland of Saskatoon, SK.

This slow-burning-turned-go-blind  video is from their outstanding 2013 album.

It’s a cocktail of aural grandeur (think Echoes by Pink Floyd) and lo-fi Canadian imagery (what happens between minute 4’12” and 6’oo” remains between us).

BEST out-of-this-world MUSIC VIDEO OF 2013

Coming back in an airplane full of Canadians from Cuba in March 2013, everybody was singing along with my 7-year old son and his friend: “If you could see our nation, from the International Space Station /// You’d know why I want to get back soon”

Romania was my country for the first 32 years of my life.

More than half, at this time -)

And in Romania, Baia Mare is my hometown, nested in the mountains ofNorth Western Transylvania.

That’s why I’m happy to report that a funk metal band with a killer live show from my hometown, Dirty Shirt, put out my favorite rock music video from Romania.

It’s actually one of the best of the year, period!

Watch it, it’s in English.

I featured Eli Keszler in an episode of my podcast.

Go get your brains smashed by his installations. If possible, catch him performing under his installation like a spider caught in his own web.
