Davin Michael Stedman (left), myself and Jake Amster (right) on a May 2014 night at the Nectar Lounge in Fremont, Wa === Davin is the band’s frontman and Jake is on bass. == Davin had me added on a VIP list that night at the Nectar for the THE WESTSOUND REUNION Annual Northwest Deep Funk Festival (where I discovered this sensational, horn-heavy, guitar and B3 driven band POLYRHYTHMICS)=== Jake had a couple of stories on how the Romanian moonshine that we gifted the band with (during my trip in 2011), traveled all the way to California in the band’s van.
with Chris O’Connor, the guitar of The Staxx Brothers == Chris’ funk is sharp as a razor; his Hendrixian sound fills up every corner of the room and then pushes the envelope until something explodes; he is also the author of an impressive number of monstrous riffs == and Chris is the kind of modest, hard working musician who will mix in with the public after his gig, a lovely gentle friend.
With the one and only DR. FINK, keyboardist of The Revolution during Prince’s glorious 1980s == Dr Fink is also an accomplished songwriter, sharing credits with Prince on a number of his megahits. == And more, he told me he has an Eastern European connection via his parents and grandparents (Hungarian and Polish). == This picture was taken while he was hanging out at the Nectar Lounge one day before his show with Staxx BrothersBackstage at the Nectar Lounge in Seattle, with Lucky Brown (left) and Davin Stedman of The Staxx Brothers (right) == As Davin said, “we all love Kurt Cobain, but hey, Seattle HAS FUNK!” == And the funk owns a great lot to Westsound Records founder, great entertainer and all around charismatic person mr. LUCKY BROWN == As anybody in Seattle, he was warmly welcoming me. His show later that night blew the house out. I didn’t dance for dozens of years like I danced that night, front row at the Lucky Brown’s show!
The Dr Fink + The Staxx Brothers poster, at the Nectar Lounge. This May 2014 show was SOLD OUT and it will rest in my memory forever. The superb sign of the Nectar Lounge in Seattle. Go see live music at the Nectar.
Polyrhythmics – a fabulous afro-funk, horn driven instrumental band I discovered this trip to Seattle. They were just returning from playing the New Orleans Jazz Fest.
